I am a lifelong resident of Connecticut and spent the better part of my youth fishing on Long Island Sound. My dad was a biology teacher and gave me my earliest taste of the marine environment. Both my parents were avid botanists. I graduated from the University of New Hampshire and spent the first 15 years of my professional life on Wall Street at a couple of the world’s most successful hedge funds. I was chief trader in FX, fixed income and commodities for George Soros at Quantum fund from 1984 to 1988 and worked as an economic and commodity analyst for Louis Bacon at Moore Capital from 1988 to 1994. After that I spent two years as a commodity analyst under Mike Aronstein at West Course Capital.
At West Course I did some venture capital analysis on several aquaculture investments thanks to my interest in fishing and fisheries. I ended up taking a job at one of them; Aquafuture. Working at Aquafuture, now Australis, helped set me on a path to a career in aquaculture. Through sheer chance, I ended up meeting Jim Markow of Aeros Oyster Company in the spring of 1999 and started CT Cultured Oysters shortly thereafter. I live in Pawcatuck, Connecticut with my wife Jill my daughter Sydney and my boy Asher.
